Red River Above the Blue
Landscape Series
About this work
The Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. The haze that gives the range its name is fine droplets and particles suspended in the air, scattering the short blue wavelengths of sunlight back before the rest of the spectrum reaches you, so the distance goes blue while the ridge underfoot stays green. Above it is the Milky Way: our own galaxy seen edge on from the inside, its bright core banded with dust lanes that block the light of everything behind them.
A campfire in the Blue Mountains, looking out over the night and the Milky Way. The fire is the collapsed focal point, the thing you are looking at. The cosmos above dissolves into spiralling wave structures, the whole universe held as everything it could be, seen from a fire in the Australian dark.
